Dr. Jeff Weddle to Speak at the Alabama Center for the Book

Dr. Jeff Weddle was the invited speaker at the Alabama Center for the Book ceremony honoring state winners of the 23rd Letters About Literature competition on May 14 at UA’s Gorgas Library. This national reading and writing contest for students in grades four through 12 encourages students to read a book, poem, or speech and then write a letter to the author about how the work impacted their lives. The letters are then judged by state affiliates of the National Center for Book. Saturday’s awards ceremony celebrated three winners, 89 semifinalists, families, and teachers from Alabama. SLIS’s own Dr. Weddle has published multiple stories, poems, and essays, including his recent short story collection, When Giraffes Flew.
