Welcome to SLIS!

Understanding the power and impact of information in all of its formats is critical to the success of a functioning culturally pluralistic, democratic society. Our degree programs at the School of Library & Information Studies (SLIS) prepare students to critically examine and mediate the production, utilization, dissemination, preservation and implications (social impacts) of information on our ever-changing world to address real-world challenges such as health disparities, social inequalities, and cybersecurity.

Located at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, our  historic campus is situated on the banks of the mighty Black Warrior River. Whether you’re looking to study on campus, earn your degree by distance or connect with us through our alumni association, we’re happy you found us!  Our award-winning, engaged faculty in archives, book arts, information science, and library studies have distinguished SLIS as a leader in our respective fields, and our graduates are making positive impacts across the U.S. and around the world.
